What We Stand For
The purpose of SDT, outlined in its mission statement, is to “Assist all learners, both youth and adult to reach their potential by providing appropriate and suitable learning which will enable them to meet their agreed specified goals”.
Sutton and District Training Limited (SDT) has been established for twenty one years and we provide flexible training which develops the skills and confidence of adults and young people. We are an organisation which offers an inclusive holistic package in a safe and secure environment. We can accommodate up to 250 learners at any time.
We tailor our training courses to accommodate our learner requirements and can adapt certain aspects to ensure we can achieve positive progression for our learners either to College, Employment or an Apprenticeship route.
We can arrange work experience in a variety of vocational areas which have been established via our partnership work in the borough.
Our staff are friendly and supportive and will work with you to achieve your goals.
We Are Providing an Environment for Our Students to Grow & Excel
SDT head office is located in the London Borough of Sutton. It operates in four centres delivering courses in Performing Arts, My Futures Programmes, Plumbing, Construction-Multi Skills, Health & Social Care, Hair & Beauty, Hairdressing & Barbering, ESOL skills for life, Games Design with Esports, Customer Service, Business & Enterprise, Skills for Business, Apprenticeships, Industry Placements, Work Experience, Functional Skills and GCSE English & Maths. We attract learners from surrounding boroughs of Merton, Epsom, Croydon and Brighton. We offer a roll on/roll off system which allows enrolment throughout the year.
At SDT we have a strong equality promotion plan which includes specific sessions at induction; posters, signs and images which constantly reinforce an inclusive message and high standards of fair, respectful and responsible treatment of each other; we have some strong curriculum-led activities which include current affairs and scenarios set up for debate to promote positive thinking about equality in society.
We ensure that we promote all vocational areas to all genders and have a rich mix of gender-based role models across our team.
SDT Directors take overall responsibility for prioritising safeguarding in the organisation.
The implementation and maintenance of a safe environment for learners, staff and visitors is a prime priority for management and staff. All staff have received updated safeguarding training and have completed the BIS Safeguarding and Safer Recruitment course.
We have a fully updated safeguarding policy which takes into account the advice of the Sutton Children’s Safeguarding Board. SDT has a designated safeguarding officer and a deputy and a due process flowchart and documentation in the event of disclosure.
