One Academic Year.
All learners will work towards gaining a level higher than they have previously achieved. We have an open door policy and you will be invited to undertake an initial assessment to help you choose what best suits your requirements.
You could progress to an apprenticeship.
What is a Pathway Programme?
The Pathway Programme recognises that many
young people lack confidence or understanding
of the core skills and qualities that are
necessary for employment or to get the most
out of vocational learning. It also recognises
that for many, they may not know what career
route is the most appropriate or how to realise
their potential.
Employers will often acknowledge that
academic achievement means little if
a potential employee cannot function
effectively in the workplace because of poor
communication skills, awareness of health
and safety or rights and responsibilities for
example. Similarly, vocational studies in further
education or apprenticeships require an
individual to be able to manage and organise
time, work independently and meet deadlines.
The Pathway Programme will see students
work towards three City & Guilds qualifications
over the academic year:
• Level 1 or 2 Certificate in Employability Skills
• Functional Skills Maths up to Level 2 (GCSE resit if eligible)
• Functional Skills English up to Level 2 (GCSE resit if eligible)
Teaching and learning would involve
participation in a range of practical activities
to help embed skills and knowledge in the
context of employment and independent
living. Students will also get the opportunity
to gain compliance qualifications relevant to a
vocational area such as Emergency First Aid,
Food Hygiene, a CSCS Card, Manual Handling
or Safeguarding.
How will this benefit the student?
Students will receive IAG support throughout
their time on the course and develop an
understanding of Fundamental British Values,
Equality & Inclusion through workshops
and visits from external health promotion
practitioners.
Most importantly students will be supported to
apply for further education in subject specific
qualifications, an apprenticeship, an industry
placement or employment.
