Our SEN Offer

At Sutton and District Training we tailor our support to encourage learners with a range of strengths to reach their full potential. We adapt our training courses to suit the needs of each individual and provide a culture which promotes inclusivity and equality. Our staff work hard to create a friendly and positive environment to ensure every young person is given the opportunity to thrive.

Recognition of needs begins when learners disclose their Special Educational Needs (SEN) on their application form or during enrolment. Staff will then be able to provide individualised support for young people with additional needs such as autism, ADHD, ODD, dyslexia and mental health diagnoses. As well as providing tailored support in class, we will ensure any additional access arrangements will be considered and addressed appropriately.

We liaise with the Local Authority to ensure progress on Educational Health Care Plans (EHCP’s) are maintained and outcomes are monitored and achieved. We will communicate with schools and other professionals to ensure a smooth transition from school to college.

We aim to support each learner on their path to independence and strive to inspire learners to grow in their chosen vocation. Our Learning Support Team ensure all learners stay on track with their work as well as supporting learner’s mental health.

As quoted in our Ofsted report ‘senior leaders and staff share a clear vision to
improve the lives of vulnerable young people. They are passionate about their work
and are tireless in supporting young people to achieve their aspirations’.

We hope you consider Sutton and District as the training provider for you and look
forward to speaking to you soon.

Work Experience

Work experience is an essential part of your course and will give you the confidence and skills employers are looking for. We will support you in the preparation for work experience and ensure you take part in an area that interests you and is related to your vocational area.

Our construction learners were lucky enough to visit the re-development sites of Sutton High Street where they gained experience of real life working. The hairdressers visit Salon International every year and were honoured to be invited to visit Goldwell Head Office in London where they received specialist training.
